Obsolete Reasons for Introduction
The Bachelor of Multimedia currently has a compulsory full year multimedia studio unit in each year of the program, each of which currently commence in semester 1. This inflexible structure has made it very difficult for students to commence the course at mid-year entry. Making the previously full year unit MMS1404 into two independent semester long units will increase the opportunities for students to commence and complete the course flexibly, without compromising the content or sequencing of the units, or increasing the resourcing demands on the campus. The proposed unit and its partner, MMS1408, may be taken in either order. The two units address different contexts and content, however, in combination the units address the development of attitudinal objectives critical to the core of the program. The units both provide a practical, problem-solving and team oriented experience of integrating the knowledge, understandings and skills acquired in other core level 1 units, and so necessarily share attitudinal objectives. However the units are distinguished by their knowledge, understanding and skill objectives. This proposal is part of the process of transforming the studio units for levels 1 and 2 to become two semester units. Once MMS1407 Multimedia Studio 1A and MMS1408 Multimedia Studio 1B are established, MMS1404 will be distestablished.
