20/07/2003 MMS1001 has been a unit within the SMS degrees for the past several years however no Avatar entry has been previously created. This entry creates an Avatar record and updates the unit for inclusion into the new Bachelor of Multimedia Systems (BMS) to be introduced in 2004.This is a core unit within the Bachelor of Multimedia Systems degree. As a recognised core component of professional practice in Information Technology, communication skills are essential to effective and successful participation in the workplace. This unit introduces students to contemporary professional, business and technical communication strategies and skills that will equip them for the demands of the workplace increasingly subject to technological diversity and transformation. This unit aims to develop students' skills in effective communication and cooperation and negotiation within a team environment. It also aims to engender an awareness of the ways in which new technologies effect communication and associated ethical issues. Students will analyse the efficacy and applications of selected communication theories and models to professional interaction. They will also develop research skills applicable to both educational and business environments.
