This industry experience studio project capstone unit gives students the opportunity to work in teams to research contemporary approaches to developing a defined project, develop new skills and apply the knowledge and skills they have already gained in a practical setting.
Teams will research and create a meaningful and beneficial problem space or design question and then carry out research or design in a systematic manner to develop and deliver a solution to industry standards, for use by organisations and/or community groups. Teams will be self managed and may be a mix of students drawn from all Masters courses in the faculty, depending on the specialist field.
Throughout this process students will need to communicate findings, knowledge and ideas effectively and professionally to a range of stakeholders, with a range of IT knowledge, in relevant and innovative ways. The stakeholders will include academics, peers, project-based stakeholders and senior industry experts. The students will attend unit seminars, carry out research individually and contribute in a professional, committed and collegial manner to the work of their team and studio peers.
On-campus
ITI5120 and ITI5122 are team taught.
In-semester assessment: 100% . As the unit is an authentic project-based experience replicating industry experience and using industry mentors to mentor, an examination would not be a suitable way to assess the student's achievement of the learning objectives, as a result the assessment is 100% based on in-semester deliverables, which together create the final project.
Minimum total expected workload equals 24 hours per week comprising:
(a.) Contact hours for on-campus students:
Two x 1-hour seminars Two x 2-hour studio laboratories, Two x 1 hour meeting\consultation times (b.) Additional requirements (all students):
A minimum of 16 hours independent study per week for completing project work individually and with team members, potential stakeholders meetings and review work Malaysia students will work in virtual teams with Caulfield students
Laboratories must be booked in studio spaces. Maximum of 20 students per studio group.
Where students are doing FIT5122 in the same semester, the studios for FIT5122 should be linked to the studios for FIT5120 as the students will be working in the same teams across the 2 units.
All other students must be in their final semester of study or have completed 72 points of units towards their FIT degree.
Full time students will take ITI5122 as a co-requisite.
Part-time students must take ITI5122 as a prerequisite, in the semester before their final semester.
ITI5122
Full-time students must enrol in ITI5122 in conjunction with ITI5120 in their final semester. Part-time students must complete ITI5122 prior to enrolling in ITI5120, in their final semester.
