Obsolete Reasons for Introduction

Developments in information technology and networks have led to a recognition that virtual library services will form an essential part of the broad information infrastructure required to support the research and education community in the future. This unit will equip information managers and other professionals with some of the key competencies as well as introduce them to some of the major issues and concepts so that they can provide leadership and direction in the new information environment. The unit is consistent with the demands from the LIS profession and the workplace for students able to demonstrate their ability to manage new technological as well as traditional modes of information service and delivery.

There have been no substantive changes made to the academic content of this unit. The main amendments to this unit are (1) WORKLOADS - changed from two hours to three hours, (2) ASSESSMENT - added the SIMS 40% hurdle policy and (3) PREREQUISITES - in light of changes to the course structure prerequisites have changed from IMS9049 to 24 credit points of IMS 9000-level units, or equivalent; or 24 credit points of graduate level units in the Master of Information Technology or the Master of Business Systems, or equivalent; or an approved undergraduate degree in information systems (IS) or information management (IM) or equivalent
