GCO4805 Software systems design and development(DISESTABLISHED FB 05/07) (13 Dec 2007, 4:44pm) []

Reasons for Introduction

Obsolete Reasons for Introduction

FEC 2/03Entry to the Master of Business System does not assume prior studies or experience in programming, however many students do have undergraduate programming or practical experience acquired in industry. The content of the unit has been revised to cater to the students with prior programming study or experience, with novices being directed to GCO9801 instead. For this reason the prohibition with GCO9801 is to be removed allowing students to take both units in sequence. The unit will maintain its focus on both system design and development, but will not teach the introductory programming topics previously included. Instead the scope will be extended to object-oriented programming, as well as event-driven programming.FEC 4/02This is an existing unit. The proposal has been put forward to introduce a summer semester offering.Original ProposalGCO4805 is an elective in the Master of Business Systems by distributed learning. The unit gives students with little or no prior formal programming education the opportunity to acquire system and program design, programming principles, and software evaluation skills. It is a prerequisite for subsequent programming units offered as electives.

26 Feb 2003 Kim Styles The proposal is to revise GCO4805 to remove the introductory programming topics. The unit will maintain its focus on both system design and development, but will not teach the introductory programming topics previously included. Instead the scope will be extended to object-oriented programming, as well as event-driven programming. The objectives and content summary have been updated, and the prohibition with GCO9801 has been removed.
20 Mar 2003 Kim Styles BUS9520 has now been added to the list of prerequisites. This follows discussion about the prohibition/prerequsite status of BUS9520 and GCO4805, and consideration of the content of both units by the Unit Advisers, as requested by FEC 2/03. Recommendation of the added prerequisite has been endorsed by the convenors of the education committees of the Gippsland School of Computing & IT and the School of Business Systems.
