Reasons for Change FEC 5/03GCO3812 Data Communications and Networks 1 is a core unit for students in the Bachelor of Information Technology major in Network Technology. Both this unit and its prerequisite, GCO2812 are taught in semester 1. The material from GCO2812 that GCO3812 requires as prerequisite knowledge is taught early and the unit advisers recommend that it is reasonable to change GCO2812 from prerequisite to co requisite without disadvantaging the students. Reasons for Change FEC 7/02This unit has been offered in the Bachelor of Computing at Gippsland since 1996, as an elective in all majors. The current proposal is to update the prerequisites to include the units offered in the Graduate Diploma of Computing.

This unit has been updated as part of a 2009 review and comparison of data with current Handbook, Syllabus + and Callista data.

At the completion of this unit students will have

This unit will introduce students to fundamentals of distributed networked environment. The unit provides knowledge of internetworking standards and understanding of the networking architecture, technology and operation.
