Reasons for Introduction

Reasons for Introduction (16 Feb 2004, 1:48pm)

In 1999 GSCIT reviewed the Bachelor of Computing and the revised structure was approved by the Faculty Education Committee in meeting 02/2000. In this review it was determined that students in the Business Systems major needed an IT-oriented study of Internet commerce, its associated concepts, technologies and applications. This proposal moves towards the goal of implementing the changes approved in the revised degree structure.Internet Commerce will be offered as a core subject at level two in the Business Systems major of the Bachelor of Computing degree at Gippsland. This subject introduces the fundamental Internet commerce concepts for business including the exploration of Internet commerce infrastructures and the main technologies that are used to implement business activities, examination of business strategies, security requirements, legal and management issues for effective use of Internet commerce. It provides necessary information and knowledge about the purpose, structure, and use of Internet-based business systems in the modern information age. At the same time it paves the way for those students who are going to study GCO3601 INFRASTRUCTURE FOR ELECTRONIC COMMERCE in their final year in order to get a comprehensive understanding of the Internet commerce for business.

Reasons for Change (08 Jun 2004, 12:51pm)

FEC4/04 Addition of Summer C 2004 for students at CIDP in Hong Kong only.

FEC5/03Now that MUM SIT has determined that it will not be offering the Business Systems major of the BIT, references to an offering for this unit in Malaysia can be removed.

FEC3/03 Reasons for Change

GSCIT is proposing to change the name of this core unit in the Business Systems major of the BIT to better distinguish it from eCommerce units that focus more on the business dimensions of the area of study. It is also proposed that the location of offering be changed to accommodate the introduction of the BIT in Malaysia. The unit is also having its prerequsite changed from a BUSECO unit to an FIT unit.
