This subject is designed to develop the skills and competencies needed in developing Electronic Commerce practices and implementing them in business contexts, both nationally and internationally. Throughout the global applications of Electronic Commerce there is a dependence on the principles of information systems theory, design and analysis. These principles and practices form a universal language linking business internationally and promote trade development in a conventional standardised format.
Modification has been made to the frequency of offering to allow MUM SIT to offer the unit at an appropriate time for the Business and Economics students.
UGPSC 4/06 Updating the Unit Objectives, Summary, Handbook Summary, Recommended Readings, and Frequency of Offering.

ASCED Classification: 020305 Systems Analysis and Design
This unit will provide students with an introduction to systems analysis and design and give a broad overview of the main techniques commonly used for carrying out the analysis and specification of the design for an computer system. The unit will introduce students to the nature of systems analysis and design as a problem-solving activity, describe the key elements of analysis and design, and explain the place of the analysis and design phases within the system development life cycle. The unit will introduce students to the nature of modelling as an analytical and a communicative process. They will learn to create models that describe system specifications using the unified modelling language (UML). Further, students will learn to interpret and understand models created with traditional structured modelling techniques.
Major topics include:
* Systems analysis and design in context;
* Analysis and problem-solving;
* Fact-finding and data gathering;
* Systems analysis using UML;
* Systems design using UML.

Printed unit materials and lectures will address all cognitive objectives. Tutorials and assessment activities will address all objectives.
Examination (3 hours): 60% - Assignments (2): 40%
To pass this unit students must:
The final grade for the unit will be calculated by ...
Final grade = minimum value of (A+10, E+10, E * R+A * (1-R))
where:
A=overall assignment percentage E=examination percentage R= exam weighting (0.5)
