The curriculum development of the unit is a major initiative in international co-operation. The development of this unit is sustained by links already established with Chinese and Taiwanese universities and by good Chinese and other Asian student representation at Monash. This unit is the world's first on teaching multilingual (universal) character encoding systems, software localisation, and software internationalisation. Students will gain skills that can easily be translated into using software systems in a multilingual computing environment, and develop the ability to understand the leading edge information technology used for processing computer information in multinational business environments. The introduction of the unit is in accordance with the University's key themes of Innovation, Engagement and Internationalisation in teaching and learning approaches.
