Reasons for Introduction

Obsolete Reasons for Introduction

Multimedia is one of the fastest-growing areas of application of information technology. The rate of development of the technological foundations for multimedia systems has, up to now, outstripped the rate of growth of understanding of both the scope for applying multimedia systems in practice and the development practices appropriate to them. Further, developments in multimedia have important wider impacts. This is especially the case with respect to the influence of multimedia (and especially the Internet/World Wide Web) on the design of computer systems and human-computer interaction (HCI) operating in more traditional domains. This subject aims to explore some of the key issues in the evolution of multimedia systems interface practice and the application these developments in the broader areas of computing.
