This unit is an updated version of a web programming unit to complement the other units in the Electronic Commerce professional track. It is designed for post graduate students in the Master of Business Systems (Professional).
The code of this unit has been changed from BUS9042 to FIT5113 in accordance to the new Faculty procedures. The change to level 5 unit is deemed necessary because the unit requires students to have fundamental understanding on object oriented programming.
This is an elective unit the the Master of Business Systems (coursework) and a part of the "Business Systems Implementation" and "Electronic Commerce" professional tracks in the Master of Business Systems Professional.
This unit extends students programming skill and equips them with current technologies in the context of distributed programming approach. It builds upon their object oriented programming background, such as from FIT9004 Computer Programming for Business.
This unit equips students with current technologies to develop web based system, in particular for e-business purposes. The unit enriches the faculty's offering in Electronic Commerce professional track.

This unit introduces students to the fundamentals of Business application development through the development of Business Web applications.Internet and Web software technologies and architectures are discussed in as much as it supports Business Web applications development.
Several models and technologies for building these applications are examined and their pros and cons discussed from a business perspective. These models and technologies will be drawn from current commercial IT environments. A specific model and set of technologies will then be used to implement a typical Business Web application.In the context of the specific implementation issues of advanced presentation, browser compatibly and backend connectivity will be discussed, as will the roles and distribution of server side and client side code in the context of validation. Other topics that will be covered are site design, navigation, user profiling, statistics and stickiness. Emerging technology solutions likely to have a commercial impact will be previewed.Coverage of broader issues such as business data security and e-Commerce conclude the unit.
