This unit has been introduced as part of the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology Research. This is an 18 credit point Masters thesis unit that is completed in one semester. It is an 18pt version of FIT5126/FIT5127/FIT5128.

Reasons for Change (18 Sep 2020, 1:44pm)

30/08/2017 - Admin: adding prohibition of FIT5126 which was left out in error.

25/03/2020: Admin - updating the thesis component word limit and presentation information in assessment on behalf of the CE.

19/06/2020: RK - update to assignments and teaching arrangements.

03/07/2020: Update to pre/co-requisites as discussed at FEC 3/20. Effective S2, 20.

18/09/2020 - Admin: Update to include new assessment and teaching approach fields as per Handbook requirements.

Objectives

On completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. design a rigorous Masters level research project and develop project proposal;
  2. critically review research literature, research design and reported findings;
  3. evaluate and select research methods and techniques of data collection and analysis appropriate to particular research designs, projects and disciplines;
  4. conduct ethical research;
  5. communicate research findings in written and oral form in research and industry settings.

This unit is a research unit for students in the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology Research. Due to the nature of IT, a wide range of project types can be offered to students. Some project components are of a practical nature and may involve software development and/or experimentation, while other components are of a more theoretical nature.
