FIT5192 is a core unit introduced as part of the double Masters course - Master of Information Technology Systems (MInfoTechSys) in the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) for 2012, delivered only at China Southeast University (SEU), Suzhou campus.
Amendment 1: Examination hour changed from perviously 2 hours to 3 hours. Reasons for the amendment: FIT5192 is a double unit delivered in a 5 weeks intensive mode. This unit combines content of two normal units, which each has 2 hours final unit exam. Experience from the first offer last year indicates that a two-hour unit exam is not sufficient to assess important topics and areas of a double unit extensively. Three hours of time will be more appropriate to conduct an extensive unit exam for a double unit. Semester of implementation: Semester 2B, 2013
Amendment 2: Content was corrected in the 'Proposed year of introduction' field: Was: Semester 2A 2012; Now: Semester 2B 2012 Reasons for the amendment: The first offer of FIT5192 was delivered in the second block of Semester 2 2012, and it will be the same case for following years. Concerned about the consistency, I suggest to correct this information in Monatar.
Amendment 3: Assessment: revised to Examination (3 hours): 50%, In-semester assessment: 50% Reason for the amendment: According to the general guidelines for the standards of level 5 Graduate units, the weighting of an exam should be at least 50%. The amendment was made accordingly. Semester of implementation: Semester 2B, 2013
Amendment 4: Unit Objectives: revised and numbered the unit learning outcomes (objectives) for AQF compliance and easier mapping within assessment components.
Amendment 5: Unit Objectives: revised the unit learning outcomes (objectives) in order to have outcomes meet the higher levels of the cognitive domain (applying, analyzing, evaluating, creating). Also to ensure the outcomes are achievable, measurable and assessable.
6/10/2015: Changes to this unit are introduced as a result from the review over all 2016 SEU Suzhou unit offerings. In order to align with Australia units, one module of this SEU double unit is no longer mapping to the discontinued Caulfield unit FIT5030 Web services and service oriented computing. Instead, its equivalent unit offered at Caulfield campus will be both FIT5042 Enterprise application development for the web, and FIT5032 Internet applications development. We therefore modified its Monatar entry in the following fields: UnitName, Abbreviation, UnitObjectives/Objectives, UnitContent/Synopsis, Prerequisites/PreReqKnowledge, and UnitContent/PrescribedReading.
Admin: submitting changes by CE.
April 2017. On behalf of CE, adding Reasons for Change, and submitting on CE behalf. Updated exam duration from 3 to 2 hours as required by new University Examination procedures, effective S2 2017.
24/9/2019: Admin - adding 10 minutes reading time to the overall exam duration as per University requirements.
19/11/2020: Admin - this unit was disestablished at FEC 5/20 on 12/11/2020 as it is no longer required.
This double unit is one of the six units in the Master of Information Technology Systems course delivered only at China SEU. This unit provides the students an option to pursue advanced Java topics and to learn how to develop multimedia and enterprise applications on the web. The unit also offers students the skills to become competent in modern techniques of Internet applications design and development.
On successful completion of this unit, students should be able to:
020103
This unit is composed of two modules. The first module provides students with an understanding of the design and development of systems that support the large enterprise in a web-based environment. Students will learn of the theoretical issues that need to be considered by the enterprise and how they can affect the development of the enterprise application. A number of techniques will be introduced as the technological means to build such an application with specific emphasis on the Java EE technology.
The second module of this unit provides students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to develop an application system, which uses a web interface to a back-end database. The unit assumes a sound basic knowledge of programming and database concepts and skills as developed in the introductory units in these areas. The emphasis in the unit is on mastery of the key concepts and the basic knowledge and skills required to build this kind of application. The unit will provide students with an awareness of the wide range of technologies which are used to support this kind of application, but will examine only a limited number of these technologies to demonstrate the key concepts and their application.
This unit will take a strongly practical focus in examining the technology issues involved, and highlight the key issues which a developer needs to address in developing applications of the kind for real-world systems.
Examination (3 hours and 10 minutes): 50%; In-semester assessment: 50%
Justification for 3 hour exam:(3 hour exam effective T3 2017) FIT5192 is a very special case. It's a double unit of 12 points comprising of learning outcomes/content from 2 modules (FIT5032/FIT5042) and taught in a very intensive mode:
Altogether the unit is composed of 48 hours lecture time and 48 hours tutorial time for each student over 5 weeks. Given the programming nature of the two modules of this unit, it's impossible to introduce more than 2 major assignments (each has a number of tasks). The exam of the two modules are combined together to make it 3 hours which is so far the most appropriate method to examine the students.
12
10 hrs lectures/wk, 10 hrs laboratories/wk, 10-20 study/working on assignment/completing tutorial exercises on your own.
