It will be an elective for honours level students in FIT masters degrees. It will develop students abilities to evaluate research papers published in the information systems field. FIT5181 replaces FIT4007 in the MBIS (Hons) program.

Feedback from students in FIT4007 indicate that they believe three hours is needed in class to properly cover the readings assigned each week.

Role, Relationship and Relevance of Unit (11 May 2010, 12:08pm)

This unit is a compulsory unit for Master of Business Information Systems (MBIS) (Honours) students. It develops students' abilities to evaluate research papers published in the information systems field. It is an integral part of the honours degrees that arose from the Faculty's Strategic Review and Honours Review.

High performing students in the MBIS and MBIS Professional may study FIT5181 with the approval of the Chief Examiner.

Synopsis (11 May 2010, 09:20am)

This unit will develop students capabilities to undertake research in the information systems field. Students will learn various research methods and study published research papers in which these research methods have been used. Students will learn to evaluate how well the research methods have been used in published research papers. Students will also develop an understanding of some of the exciting, leading-edge research in the information systems field. This understanding may enable students to identify research topics that they would like to pursue, perhaps in an honours, masters, or PhD thesis.
