For the last 3-4 years the unit has focused primarily on interaction design and usability relating to web and mobile design. Changing the name better reflects the recent directions the teaching is taking. The unit will continue to focus on usability but the phrase 'user experience' is now used more widely in this area. March 2010 - After the introduction of FIT9017 Foundations in Programming as a MBIS foundation unit GPC requested that all units with FIT9004 Computer Programming for Business as a Foundation as a prerequisite be reviewed. As a result of this review FIT9004 and FIT9017 have been removed from FIT5152 as prerequisite requirements. This amendment can take effect immediately as there is no impact on currently enrolled students.

This unit has been updated as part of a 2009 review and comparison of data with current Handbook, Syllabus + and Callista data.

8/2/2012 Removed MAIT-specific prerequisites (FIT9019 and FIT9030) and general pre-requisite (FIT9003) as they are not required. Change to take effect from Semester 1, 2012.

14/2/2012 Added FIT4063 as prohibition due to significant overlap in content. Change to take effect from Semester 1, 2012.

15/6/12 - Tutorials moved to a 90 minute studio so that students don't have to move rooms between the tute and the lab. Change to take effect in semester 2 2012.

21 May, 2013 - Revised pre-requisites to cater for transition arrangements in relation to the introduction of the new version of the MBIS in 2014.

20 April, 2015 - revised learning objectives and changed to learning outcomes. Change to take effect from Semester 2, 2015.

19 June 2015 - Admin amendment to revert name of unit as per GPC 2/15 (Item 7.6).

13/12/2016 - the unit outcomes were updated. There were 8 outcomes which were too many, and some parts of them were repetitive and confusing (not clear enough). After discussing with CE, we revised and improved them.

22/03/2017 - the 3 hour exam was changed to 2 hours standard exam (with 10 min reading time) as requested.

12/06/2017: Admin - updating location of offering to reflect actual campus offerings at the ADE's request.

6/11/2017: the tutorial duration was 1.5 hours and was updated to 2 hours for Semester 2 2018. The reason was that the unit was updated in 2017 and tutorial activities will not fit in 1.5 hours. (this will not affect this year's summer offering)

24/9/2019: Admin - adding 10 minutes to exam duration as per University requirements.

4/5/2020: As the MSA course 4307 Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences is in teach-out, the MSA offering of this unit has been re-coded to FZA5152 effective Semester 2, 2020. These units will be managed by South Africa and therefore no separate Monatar entries will be made

29/09/2020 - Admin: Update to include new assessment and teaching approach fields as per Handbook requirements.

11/06/2021: Admin - adding Reasons for Change - Proposed change to 100% in-semester assessment. Students are assessed via four deliverables during the semester, which incrementally cover all the ULOs, two online discussion forums (to closely monitor their understanding before key deliverables) and one final presentation.

This unit provides detailed understanding of user interaction design theories, principles and practices and usability for web based systems and small screen devices. The unit examines issues in interaction design and usability from various perspectives, in particular the user experience. The unit includes how to achieve more effective design during systems development, tools and techniques for understanding users better and the application of these to designing web and small screen device systems. It explores contemporary issues including the challenges faced by designers with emerging technologies.
