FIT5111 Information Systems Development Practices replaces existing units IMS5006 Information Systems Development Practices and IMS5024 Information Systems Modelling. It has been designed as a core unit in the Caulfield PG Enterprise Systems Professional Track for the MBIS, and it may be used to provide a core unit in the PG Enterprise Systems major for the Master of Business (Information Technology Management). This unit may also be used as an elective in the current masters degrees in the Faculty of IT in 2008.

21 Oct 2010 - Updated pre reqs as FIT9004 was previously entered incorrectly, replaced with FIT9006. For Sem 1,2011 implementation.

21 May 2013 - Revised pre-requisites to cater for transition arrangements in relation to the introduction of the new version of the MBIS in 2014.

18 July 2013 - Amendments to prerequisites and prohibitions. Effective Semester 1 2014.

10/9/13 - Amended objectives on behalf of CE to comply with AQF requirements.

21/10/2014 - Amended prerequisite requirements by adding 2015, FIT9xxx version of 2014, FIT5xxx foundation units. Approved at GPC 4/14 (Item 6.2).

Synopsis (29 Oct 2009, 6:19pm)

This unit is designed to provide students with an understanding of a range of tools and techniques for systems development and knowledge of a number of specific systems development methodologies. The main topics include the tools and techniques for systems development, the evaluation of the tools and techniques, evolution of development methodologies, the organisational context in which systems development takes place and a number of systems development approaches. These include participative development, soft systems approaches, object-oriented development, structured systems development approaches, data and information-oriented approaches and rapid application development.
