FIT5098 Industry based project - disestablished (07 Dec 2017, 11:27am) [IB PROJECT (13 May 2010, 2:51pm)]

Reasons for Introduction

Reasons for Introduction (13 May 2010, 2:55pm)

This is a one-semester, 12 point unit, which is designed to provide industry experience for students enrolled in the Master of Business Information Systems (MBIS) and the Master of Information Technology (MIT) coursework degrees. For some years, there has been mounting student demand for such a unit. FIT5098 is only available to students after completion of at least two semesters of coursework studies, under special conditions.

Reasons for Change (07 Dec 2017, 11:27am)

Modified ASCED code to suit both MBIS and MIT cohorts. Change to be implemented from Sem 1,2011.

Modified Workload/SpecialRequirements to match FIT3015. Seminars for FIT3015 and FIT5098 will run together. Changes are for Sem 1,2011 implementation.

07/12/2017 - Unit disestablished at FEC 5/17 Item 7.3.

Role, Relationship and Relevance of Unit (13 May 2010, 3:34pm)

FIT5098 is a 'capstone' unit for students in the MBIS and MIT coursework degrees. It provides students with an opportunity to integrate and apply their prior learning to an industry project, enhancing their future employability. The unit allows students to experience a real project with all the unpredictable factors associated with groupwork, clients, and project management, but in a monitored environment with supervisor support. It is a valuable transition to professional work in the IT industry.

In FIT5098, students work in teams to develop a real-world information system. Particular emphases are: the development of a professional relationship with the client; team and project management; working through the feasibility study, analysis, design, development, testing, and delivery phases of the system development lifecycle; the production of a working system with professional standard documentation; and enhancing communication and presentation skills. The unit provides both a synergic experience (bringing together knowledge and skills from prior units) and an environment in which new knowledge and skills are acquired.
