At the completion of this unit, students will have:
(1) Knowledge of: the various groupware systems that have been developed for computer-supported cooperative work.
(2) Understanding of: the psychological, social and organizational issues in the development and deployment of groupware
(3) Skills to: use and develop Notes applications.
Virtual teams are becoming prevalent in global companies and groupware has made it possible for these virtual teams to communicate, coordinate and collaborate with their team members. This unit will survey various types of groupware and explore the psychological, social and organisational issues in the development and implementation of groupware through case studies. Students will also gain hands-on experience in using and developing groupware applications.

Teaching methods have been designed to achieve each of the above objectives:
Objectives 1 and 2 - achieved through lectures and assignment work
Objectives 3 - achieved through lab exercises and assignment work
Assessment is based on the following:
Objectives 1 and 2 : assessed through group assignments and exam
Objective 3 : lotus notes assignment and exam
HiTech Lecture theatre capacity, 2 hours per week
computer laboratories 1 hour per week
1 full time lecturer (1 unit load), 1 part time tutor
