C1. Knowledge: Students successfully completing the unit will have a knowledge of a range of historical and contemporary examples of electronic media artworks and the artists who constructed them.
C2. Analysis: Students will be able to analyse existing works of new media art and reason about the technical and aesthetic methodologies required to design them.
C3. Synthesis: Students will be able to construct their own simple electronic media art works based on their knowledge of existing works and their understanding of the specific characteristics of computation as a medium for artistic expression.
C4. Evaluation: Students will be able to look critically at others' art works, and their own in order to assess their merits at a technical and aesthetic level.

S1. Students will be able to participate in chaired discussion sessions concerning the critical and technical analysis of existing works of new-media art. S2. Students will be able to coherently voice opinions and debate the merits of aesthetic decisions in new media art.
Demonstrations of projects and applications will introduce electronic media art on a range of levels (all objectives labelled O1-4 and objectives C1, C2 and C3). Seminars will develop an understanding of the history and interdisciplinary nature of electronic media art (objectives O1 and O3, C1, C4). Practical exercises will develop skills in the production of electronic media art (objectives O2, C2, C3). Following seminars students will engage in informal discussions on the seminar topic (objective S1, S2).
Existing computer laboratories within the Faculty of Art & Design may be utilised by students to complete the practical components of this unit.
