This unit was introduced to create a 4th year level elective unit for MAIT degree students.

Reasons for Change (07 Dec 2017, 11:51am)

Request to change the 1 hour tutorial class to 2 hours for Semester 1,2012. The reason is because the one hour was found to be too short to cover all the tutorial activities. The change is also in line with faculty policy.

14/2/2012 Added FIT5152 as prohibition due to significant overlap in content. Change to take effect from Semester 1, 2012.

16/2/2012 Added FIT3063 as a prohibition because FIT4063 is a 4th year level equivalent of FIT3063. Change to take effect from Semester 1, 2012.

14/11/2013 Amended pre-requisite requirements from FIT9030 to (FIT9003 or FIT5132) or (FIT9030 or FIT5130) to cater for PG (BIS & IT) transition teach out arrangements. To be implemented for Semester 1, 2014.

18/5/2014 changed unit objectives to unit outcomes to comly with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

This is a Group 2 elective unit in the MAIT degree. It is a 4th year level equivalent of FIT3063.

Synopsis (13 Sep 2011, 4:01pm)

This unit provides a detailed understanding of the underpinning theories, principles and practices of interface design for computer-based systems. It examines issues in the design of system interfaces from a number of perspectives: user, programmer, designer. It explores the application of the relevant theories in practice. The unit will cover topics such as methods and tools for developing effective user interfaces, evaluation methods such as the conduct of usability and heuristic evaluations, design of appropriate interface elements including the design of menus and other interaction styles. The unit will also focus on designing for a diverse range of users and environments.
