FIT3157 Advanced Web Design is a required unit in the redesigned Multimedia Development Extended Major. It is also makes up one of three optional units in the Creative Computing Minor (also called the Multimedia Development Minor).

This unit introduces students to the design and development of mobile online media using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and WordPress. The unit is broadly divided into three parts, with groups of four weeks comprising each part. The first and second part of the unit, students will learn the principles and practicalities of responsive web design, touch based interaction and the programming of mobile functionality and animated visual effects. The final four weeks of the unit will cover WordPress content management and theme development, the managing of custom content in WordPress and the building of dynamic WordPress sites.

Building upon the skills learned in the Interactive media major core units (Interactive media foundations and Interactive media studios 1 & 2), FIT3157 introduces students to the design and development of mobile online media using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and WordPress. This unit is broadly divided into three parts, with groups of four weeks comprising each part. The first and second part of the unit, students will learn the principles and practicalities of responsive web design, touch based interaction and the programming of mobile functionality and animated visual effects. The final four weeks of the unit will cover WordPress content management and theme development, the managing of custom content in WordPress and the building of dynamic WordPress sites.
In-semester assessment: 100%
The main assessment consists of three assignments worth 20%, 20% and 30%. These assignments correspond with the grouping of weekly topics into four-week blocks. In lieu of an exam, there will be three in tutorial tests worth 10% each following each assignment to assess student knowledge of the assignment material.
Minimum total expected workload equals 12 hours per week comprising:

This unit would ideally run in a studio room environment in a four-hour block, with the one-hour seminar/lecture and the following three-hour tutorial/lab all taught in the same room/lab.
This unit will make use of WordPress, HTML5 and JavaScript APIs, as well as applications from the Adobe Software Suite
