This unit (and its counterpart Studio 1) aims to build on the students' knowledge of basic concepts from previous years, by introducing them to more advanced tools for multimedia systems and games development. It also aims to further develop students' understanding of the multimedia and games development processes and the tools and techniques used to manage and control it.
The sequence content will be integrated closely with that of the other core units in the degree programs. This second unit concentrates on the systems development phase and the delivery of the final product/game and thus completes the overall project development process This unit allows students to demonstrate the skills that they have gained in FIT1012, FIT2012, FIT2015, FIT2016, FIT2026 and /or FIT2049 in a large scale multimedia or games project.
At the completion of this unit students should be able to -
029999
Students will work actively in teams on the development of a multimedia or games application or exhibit. Using project planning/management skills along with other development procedures, students must then deliver a functional multimedia system or game, along with all requisite documentation, which integrates multimedia, programming, and technical knowledge in the development process. Requirements are fulfilled by the team producing an identified set of deliverables, usually a progress report, full system documentation, and functional project. The team must ensure that each deliverable is completed on schedule, with each member of the team demonstrating a significant contribution to the overall effort.
There are no specific software requirements for this unit due to the varying nature of the projects chosen. After choosing your project you will be required to use the most appropriate development software.
On-campus
This unit is a capstone class where students work on self-directed projects. As such, the class will be run as a single 4 hour studio each week.
To enable students to have access to the skills of all teaching staff, all studio classes need to be scheduled at the same time and in close proximity to each other (ideally at the same time and in adjacent rooms)
A broad open class approach is used to facilitate collaboration and a peer based learning approach between students
This unit has a group based assessment component of 60% and an individual component of 40%. To pass in this unit a student must obtain: 40% or more in the individual assessment, and 40% or more in the group assessment, and an overall unit mark of 50% or more. If a student does not achieve 40% or more in the unit group assessment or the unit individual assessment and the total mark for the unit is greater than 50% then a mark of no greater than 49-N will be recorded for the unit.
Minimum total expected workload equals 12 hours per week comprising:
(a.) Contact hours for on-campus students:
(b.) Additional requirements (all students):
This unit requires both a Mac and PC studio space.
PC systems must be capable of high powered 3D rendering, video production and games development.
