This is a fast-track, one-semester, 12 point version of the Industry Experience units for the Systems Development, Information Systems, Netcentric Computing, Internet Systems, Information Management and Security majors of the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems and the Bachelor of Computing, introduced as part of the faculty restructure in 2006. It is only available to students in the last semester of their course under special conditions.

This unit has been updated as part of a 2009 review and comparison of data with current Handbook, Syllabus + and Callista data.

This unit has be introduced into the Bachelor of Business Information Systems as a result of the 2010 Undergraduate Course Review and continues to be offered in most of the majors in the Bachelor of Information Technology & Systems.

This unit is an alternative to the two third year industry experience project units of study in some majors of the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems (BITS) and the Bachelor of Business Information Systems (BBIS). Students who complete an IBL placement are not eligible for the Industry Experience project units.

These industry experience units allow students to experience the ambiguity and complexity of developing and delivering a real IT application in a supported environment. It gives them the opportunity to research and develop new skills, and apply the skills and knowledge they have gained throughout their degree, assisting in transition to professional work in the IT industry.

In their final year of study, students are given the opportunity to develop new skills and apply the knowledge and skills they have gained, in the development of an IT application for a real world client. In teams, students design, develop and deliver an IT applications for a client, manage the project through all its development stages, communicate effectively with all project stakeholders and develop project documentation to a professional standard. Students also present their project work to academics and other groups, attend unit seminars, and contribute in a professional and committed manner to the work of their team.
