Creative Computing Studio 2 is a core unit in the redesigned Multimedia Development Major, Minor and Extended Major
Introduction for course architecture programs. Effective semester 1, 2017
23/9/15 - Update to synopsis following discussions with UPGC Chair and Tom Chandler.
21/04/2017: The title 'Creative Computing' is not really relevant to this unit and is something of a legacy from the early drafting of the major. The title 'Interactive Media' more accurately addresses the nature of the material being taught in this unit, and also in the major more broadly.
05/07/2017: Admin - updating unit as per UGPC/ADE approval for 2018 Handbook.
10/8/2017: FIT2092 AND FIT2091 form part of the new UG BITS degree.
As such they can be seen to replace FIT1012 (website Authoring) and FIT2026(Sound and Video) from the old degree. The Focus of the old units was reflected in their names and also the learning outcomes.
At present, both FIT2092 and 2012 have a significant mix of content relating to web development and creation of web assets including digital graphics and audiovisual content as well as web development, information visualization and user interactivity. Each unit is a mix of the two older units.
As a result of consultation with those involved with content development and delivery of the new units, it was considered that it was less effective in terms of student learning to have the content of the units split in such a way and that it would be more effective if FIT2091 focused more on content development, dealing with web issues only where they directly affected graphics and audiovisual technologies, and FIT2092 should focus more on user interactivity, web coding and visualization.
It was felt hat the outcomes need to be worded to more accurately represent the focus of the units.
The section dealing with the relevance of the unit mentioned only 4 weeks of web development. It is proposed that in future this unit should have a more comprehensive focus on web development.
Synopsis: removed reference to vector graphics. The format of the graphics used is not relevant to the web development skills taught in this unit.
It could also be noted that FIT2091 is a pre-requisite for FIT3156 (Advanced Visual Effects) And FIT2092 is a pre-requisite for FIT3157 (Advanced Web Design). Changing the focus and outcomes of FIT2091 and 2092 would also be more appropriate when considering the 3rd year units.
Since FIT2092 does deal with concepts and techniques covered in FIT1012 it would also be appropriate to include FIT1012 as a prohibition for this unit.
Creative Computing Studio 2 consolidates the development of the digital media design skills introduced in Creative Computing Foundations and extended in Creative Computing Studio 1. On completion of Creative Computing Studio 2 students are equipped to enter higher-level units in the Multimedia Development Major, Minor and Extended Major, and are prepared for undertaking well planned 3rd year studio projects. Students completing this unit may enroll in FIT3157 Advanced Web Design.
At the completion of this unit, students should be able to:
029999
Interactive media studio 2 consolidates the digital media skills introduced in Interactive media foundations and extended in Interactive media studio 1. The focus on the development of high level digital media skills in graphic editing, digital image manipulation and JavaScript equips students undertaking this unit to enter higher-level units in the major, minor and extended major.
Minimum total expected workload equals 12 hours per week comprising:
(a.) Contact hours for on-campus students:
(b.) Additional requirements (all students):
This unit will run with a one hour lecture (scheduled separately) and a three hour tutorial/lab
This unit will make use of software from the Adobe Software Suite
