Creative computing studio 1 is a core unit in the redesigned Multimedia Development Major, Minor and Extended Major
Introduced as part of course architecture programs. Effective semester 2, 2016
20/4/2017: Reasons for Change: The title 'Creative Computing' is not really relevant to this unit and is something of a legacy from the early drafting of the major. The title 'Interactive Media' more accurately addresses the nature of the material being taught in this unit, and also in the major more broadly.
05/07/2017: Admin - updating unit as per UGPC/ADE approval for 2018 Handbook.
10/8/2017:
FIT2091 AND FIT2092 form part of the new UG BITS degree.
As such they can be seen to replace FIT2026(Sound and Video) and FIT1012 (website Authoring) from the old degree. The Focus of the old units was reflected in their names and also the learning outcomes.
At present, both FIT2091 and 2092 have a significant mix of content relating to web development and creation of web assets including digital graphics and audiovisual content as well as web development, information visualization and user interactivity. Each unit is a mix of the two older units.
As a result of consultation with those involved with content development and delivery of the new units, it was considered that it was less effective in terms of student learning to have the content of the units split in such a way and that it would be more effective if FIT2091 focused more on content development, dealing with web issues only where they directly affected graphics and audiovisual technologies, and FIT2092 should focus more on user interactivity, web coding and visualization.
It was felt hat the outcomes need to be worded to more accurately represent the focus of the units.
It could also be noted that FIT2091 is a prerequisite for FIT3156 (Advanced Visual Effects) And FIT2092 is a prerequisite for FIT3157 (Advanced Web Design). Changing the focus and outcomes of FIT2091 and 2092 would also be more appropriate when considering the 3rd year units.
Since FIT2091 does deal with concepts and techniques covered in FIT2026 t would also be appropriate to include FIT2026 as a prohibition for this unit.
30/1/20: Admin - updating the on-campus workload activity types to meet University requirements. Also minor amendment to wording of workload.
17/09/2020 Admin: Update to include new assessment and teaching approach fields as per Handbook requirements.
19/02/21: Update to learning outcomes and assessment structure.
Primary reason for changes are due to the university no longer licensing Adobe Creative Cloud software, on which previous iterations of the unit were heavily reliant upon. Alternative software is not being used for some parts of the semester to achieve equivalent learning outcomes. Where no suitable alternative software is available, the unit has been redesigned to allow students to continue producing work of equivalent technical and creative scope.
Additional updates to assessment structure to meet new academic assessment policy/procedure requirements to facilitate better authentication of student work and use of similarity detection tools in assessments.
Creative computing studio 1 builds upon the skills learnt in Creative computing foundations and introduces students to digital graphic and video technologies for the web. The basics of web design and production introduced in Creative computing foundations are extended in this unit. Students will undertake projects that integrate a range of multimedia resources to design and develop original digital images, motion graphic sequences and interactive webpages. In their final assignment, students will collaborate in groups of two or three to realise their multimedia creation. Creative computing studio 1 is a prerequisite for FIT3156 Advanced visual effects.
At the completion of this unit, students should be able to:
029999
Interactive media studio 1 builds upon the skills learnt in Interactive media foundations and introduces students to digital graphic and video technologies for the web. The basics of web design and production introduced in Interactive media foundations are extended in this unit. Students will undertake projects that integrate a range of multimedia resources to design and develop original digital images, motion graphic sequences and interactive webpages. In their final assignment, students will collaborate in groups of two or three to realise their multimedia creation.
Required software will be installed in the faculty computer labs for student use. Students will be informed about software requirements for use on personal devices at the start of the semester.
On-campus
Lecture and/or tutorials or problem classes, and studio teaching
In-semester assessment: 100%
Students are assessed via interview; students produce a portfolio of work that is monitored by teaching staff.
Minimum total expected workload equals 12 hours per week comprising:
(a.) Contact hours for on-campus students:
(b.) Additional requirements (all students):
This unit is run with a one hour lecture (scheduled separately) and a three hour studio
