FIT1035 Digital media authoring - disestablished (30 Nov 2017, 12:00pm) [DMA (26 Jul 2010, 3:37pm)]

Reasons for Introduction

Reasons for Introduction (04 Aug 2010, 5:56pm)

FIT1035 is a unit that forms part of the first year Multimedia Development major units for the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems degree in the Faculty of Information Technology, following the 2009/10 Undergraduate Course Review.

Reasons for Change (30 Nov 2017, 12:00pm)

June 2012 :: Experimental changes suggested as an outcome from the Student experience Working Party meeting to implement in this unit in Semester 2 2012

The materials will now be delivered in 3 hr lab and 1 hr seminar.

September 2012: Added FIT1040 as an alternative prerequisite to FIT1002 for 2013. Approved by CE (Cheryl Howard) via email 5/09/2012.

The changes to the workload description were necessary to ensure that students were timetabled into computer labs NOT tutorial rooms.

Feb 2014: modified the learning outcomes to be AQF compliant

9 May 2014 - Added Timetabling Requirements

13 July 2016 - South Africa requested that FIT1051 be included as a prerequisite for this unit as they no longer offer FIT1002 or FIT1040. The CE agreed (via email) that this prerequisite could be added to this unit.

30/11/2017 - Unit disestablished at FEC 5/17 Item 7.3.

Role, Relationship and Relevance of Unit (04 Aug 2010, 6:01pm)

This unit builds on programming skills and knowledge gained in FIT1002 using Adobe Flash multimedia authoring environment and ActionScript.

Flash, as an authoring environment, is proving to be very popular within the multimedia industry. As such, the ability to transfer program design and development skills to different authoring environments is a fundamental skill expected of programmers and developers. The range of applications that can be developed using Flash ranges through entertainment, instructional, educational and business. This unit explores program design and development so that students gain valuable experience using and applying these skills in a multimedia context.

Digital Media Authoring focuses on the development of appropriate animation techniques and the application of design and development strategies that will lay foundational skills in subsequent subjects including FIT2026, FIT2072, FIT3039 and FIT3040.

Objectives

Objectives (28 Feb 2014, 3:48pm)

On successful completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • identify and apply the formal processes undertaken for preparing and documenting the design specification and prototype development stages of a multimedia application
  • construct a functional interactive project given a specific brief using a graphical authoring environment (eg: Adobe Flash CS6)
  • identify, design and develop appropriate assets for the creation of a functional user interface using an appropriate navigational structure
  • execute a range of special effects which are commonly required for interactive design in multimedia applications (eg: animation, visual and audio feedback, etc.)
  • demonstrate intermediate programming techniques using the required authoring language (eg: ActionScript 3.0) using an object-oriented approach to programming development
  • identify and interpret the nature of technical issues that are encountered during the development and testing of a multimedia application
  • modify or adapt learned programming techniques to extend these skills across multiple languages

    Synopsis (04 Aug 2010, 6:02pm)

This unit provides a focus on specialist tools and techniques that are used for developing content-rich interactive multimedia systems using Adobe Flash. This unit will cover fundamental multimedia principles and best practice theory, the application of practical development processes, the integration of mixed-media assets, interactive design and ActionScript programming for digital media and different technologies for product deployment. Students will create content-rich interactive applications and/or web-based products using an industry standard authoring tool, Adobe Flash, and will gain an understanding of the role of digital media within the broader technology environment.
