This unit introduces fundamental concepts about information, its use by individuals, groups, organisations and societies in a variety of contexts, and the role of information management. It provides students with basic skills in the analysis of various stakeholder needs, and the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and Information Management (IM) tools to meet these needs.

2005: Existing unit IMS1603 Information Use and Management being updated to fit into the new BITS degree structure with new FIT unit code.

Role of Unit (25 Jul 2005, 11:31pm)

FIT1014 Information Use and Management is an elective 1st level unit in the Caulfied BITS major in Systems Development.

Relationship of Unit (07 Oct 2005, 11:20am)

This unit replaces the existing BIS unit IMS1603. There is no other comparable unit in the faculty.

Relevance of Unit (07 Oct 2005, 11:18am)

This elective unit is part of the Information Management stream of electives, which build a foundation for professional accreditation by respective professional bodies.

High-tech lecture theatre with data display and internet connection, with a PC and facility to plug in a laptop, for two hours per week throughout the semester.

One ordinary flat tutorial room with overhead projector per 20 students, for 1 hour per week for 12 weeks.

One computer equipped laboratory per 20 students, for 1 hour per week for 12 weeks.
