FIT5010 Advanced internet protocols and applications (20 Nov 2008, 12:11pm) [ADV INTERNET PRO APP (20 Nov 2008, 12:11pm)]

Reasons for Introduction

Reasons for Introduction (20 Nov 2008, 12:11pm)

Created as part of the Master of information Technology and Master of Applied Information Technology Units - 2009

Reasons for Change (25 May 2006, 10:38pm)

This is the first version of this unit.

Role of Unit (20 Nov 2008, 12:11pm)

Core unit for: Network Computing Specialisation

This unit is one of four core units in the Network Computing Specialisation in the MIT and MAIT and an elective in all FIT masters

Relationship of Unit (25 May 2006, 10:40pm)

This is a level 5 specified elective unit in the MDC (offered by FIT) and MTC (offered by Engineering). This is the faculty's only unit that concentrates solely on the advanced Internet protocols and applications area.

Relevance of Unit (25 May 2006, 08:56am)

FIT5010 replaces CSE5803 in the Master of Digital Communications, a cognate degree offered by the Faculty of IT. It builds upon assumed prerequisite knowledge at the level of an undergraduate introductory unit in Networks and Data Communications (such as the FIT common core unit FIT1005/2008 or equivalent study.) This unit provides MDC graduates with advanced knowledge about a fundamental area within the field of digital communications, namely Internet protocols and applications. Advanced Internet Protocols and Applications are very important fields in IT and are essential skills and knowledge for a wide range of employment. In addition, Digital communications is an active area of research within the Faculty, and this unit (and the other MDC courseware units) contribute to the Faculty's research-teaching nexus.

Objectives

Statement of Objectives (20 Nov 2008, 12:11pm)

  1. have a well-developed conceptual framework, enabling them to keep pace with developments in the rapidly changing field of network computing
  2. have a thorough understanding of one or more specialised areas of study within network computing
  3. be familiar with using current technology, systems and software relevant to network computing
  4. be able to practise professionally as a network computing specialist
