Reasons for Introduction
Obsolete Reasons for Introduction
This is a core unit for first year students in Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT). The BIT is intended to provide a common first year where enrolled student can articulate into various degrees offered by the faculty. Because of this, the core unit will have significant overlap with combination of other units that are core units for these target degrees. This unit is designed to introduce students to a broad overview of data communications and computer networks. It differs from other existing similar units in that; it is a level 1 unit that does not assume any pre-requisite knowledge. As this unit could be one of the first core units for a first year first semester student in BIT, this unit also does not focus heavily on the numerical analysis and traffic simulation that are mathematically intensive, nor does it dwell heavily on network computing and client server implementation that are programming intensive but rather takes a hands-on approach in networking and network configurations.
