In a review of its honours year programmes, the Faculty of Information Technology has resolved to adopt a common structure
in which the coursework component of all honours years will consist of a number of 6-point subjects. At present the final (honours) year of the Bachelor of Computer Science and Bachelor of Digital Systems degrees consists of a single 48-point subject in which students take
a number of informal coursework units and a research thesis. In order to comply with the new structure, it is necessary to establish the current informal units as formal subjects. The establishment of these subjects also enables them to be taken by students in postgraduate diploma and coursework masters programs.This subject, CSC442 Advanced Digital Signal Processing (ADSP), has existed for a number of years in the form of a coursework unit within the above honours programmes. This subject covers advanced topics in digital signal processing, including theory, principles, techniques and algorithms, advanced digital signal processor architecture, applications and implementation. The subject area is of considerable relevance to industrial applications in telecommunications, multimedia signal processing and communications, defense, power, biomedical, acoustics, seismology, aeronautics and astronautics, and consumer electronics industries, where digital signal processing and analysis is a fundamental enabling and underlining technology.
