Reasons for Introduction

Obsolete Reasons for Introduction

A similar unit has been operating successfully for several years in the Faculties of Engineering and Science (eg ENG4614), and the benefits it can offer have been established. Whilst contributing to the ongoing development of the relatively recent school key learning area of 'Technology', that includes Information Technology, the unit provides a realistic environment in which level three computer science students can develop and practise their communication and interpersonal skills, in a client oriented situation. They interact productively with both the school students and the teachers to whose learning and curriculum needs they contribute in a collaborative and negotiated manner. The unit thus provides an opportunity for final year computer science students to use, develop and practise skills that are highly valued in the workplace, and that complement their technological skills and knowledge.
