Reasons for Introduction

Obsolete Reasons for Introduction

This version of the unit already exists in Callista as CSE3200 S1/S2. It is the Case-Study version of the Industrial Project. It is available only as an evening delivery to Part-Time students with significant experience in IT. Now it will be identified in Callista as CSE3222 S1 or CSE3222 S2 depending on the semester of offer. It was decided to give it a unique unit code to clearly identify it as different from the other two versions for full-time students. This unit provides students with the opportunity to apply the principles and skills they have already acquired in their course, to the development of a computer system which addresses the needs of a realistic business application. In doing so, it serves as a valuable transition between their small-scale, focussed coursework and the broader-scale, more complex development environments of industry. The overall framework of the unit is presented as a case-study.This unit is being introduced for these reasons:
  • It allows us clearly to restrict this version of the IE Project unit to approved part-time students with significant computer industry experience
  • It simplifies for Faculty Administration, the enrolments of part-time students taking the unit as a one-semester delivery, implemented as a case-study
  • By introducing a new unit code, the unit can be offered in both semesters without any confusion with the one-semester offering of the IE project for full-time students
