This subject presents concepts and technologies of in the ECommerce domain for the Master of Network Computing degree. As it is the goal of this degree to understand networks and the tools, techniques, methods and technologies of IT, this subject helps to acheive these aims. Although this is not a new subject, it is its first entry into Avatar.
This is this subjects first entry into the Avatar system. The subject information was taken from the subject website http://neptune.netcomp.monash.edu.au/cpe5008/pub/Handbook.html) which has been run and maintained by Ahmed Kayed.
The only change is listed below. The assignment is now worth 40% and exam is 60% instead of vice versa. Also, students have the choice of one of two assignments giving thought to their potentially lack of technical background.

The Internet affords great opportunities for conducting business transactions that do not require physical proximity. This course describes the components and issues involved with electronic commerce such as: Internetworking concepts, Architecture, and Protocols, Business Process Analysis, Classification of Digital Commerce, Electronic Payment Methods and Systems, Security, Certificates, EDI, Standards, Commerce Servers, and Internet Business Strategies. On-campus
The unit will have a 2 hour lecture and a 2 hour tutorial in computer laboratories per week for one semester.
The lecture stream will present the issues and challenges of e-commerce related technologies as per the subject outline.
The tutorial sessions will enhance the students' understanding of e-commerce concepts and development. Discussions in the tutorials of key concepts taught in the lecture are used to strengthen student understanding.
The assessment has two components:
Students have the choice of the research or practical assignment. Both assignments will enhance student understanding of the topics taught in the lecture and give an appreciation of the concepts and e-commerce issues. The practical assignment requires some understanding of programming for the internet (asp, asp.net, php) and is therefore offered as an alternative to the written assignment.
The final examination will test the students' understanding of the major issues of e-commerce and its related technologies and concepts.
The university expects that for this subject, all students will spend a further 8 hours per week on completion of exercises, assignments, private study and revision.
