The School fo Business Systems (in consultation with the Gippsland School of Computing and IT) requests approval to change the teaching mode of this unit from on-campus learning only to on-campus (to be offered by SBS) and off-campus learning (to be offered by GSCIT). This is in order to bring the Master of Business Systems (OCL) course structure in line with the Master of Business Systems offered on the Clayton campus. BUS9530 will be a core unit in the Master of Business Systems (OCL).This unit is a recoding from BUS5530. BUS5530 is to be disestablished.The Master of Business Systems (Coursework) and Master of Business Systems by Projects courses provide an opportunity for graduates from a diverse range of disciplines to acquire the necessary education and training for a successful career in Commerce, with a particular emphasis upon Information Technology. Because many students have a limited IT background the School of Business Systems has, for some time, provided the unit BUS4520 Computer Information Systems which seeks to provide, to those students who require it, the necessary background in IT both to facilitate their further study in the programme and to ensure that they are exposed to and competent in those IT areas which the school deems necessary to earn the Business Systems qualification.It has however, become apparent to members of the school teaching into the Masters programme that there are also a substantial number of students who come to the course lacking the necessary understanding of the commercial processes and information management requirements which are the raison d'etre for Commercial Information Technology. An understanding and appreciation of these areas is just as vital to our students as the material covered in BUS4520.Therefore, this new unit is proposed to present the necessary business process, information management and data analysis understanding and proficiency that, along with the Information Technology, form the basis of the interdisciplinary nature of Business Systems.To reflect the fundamental nature of this material to Business Systems the unit is to be called Business Systems II. This proposal goes to the Faculty Education Committee accompanied by a request to change the name of BUS4520 to Business Systems I.
