Furthermore, customers are becoming more demanding. Business processes must be designed to ensure that they are effective and meet customer requirements. A well-designed process will improve efficiency and deliver greater productivity. This unit will survey the analytical tools that can be used to model, analyse, understand and design business processes. Students will also gain hands-on experience in using simulation software as a tool for analyzing business processes.

Assessment breakdown is as follows:

• Assignments (30%)
• Exam (70%)

• Skills to use simulation software as a tool for analyzing business processes: assessed through assignments.

4 contact hours per week (one x 2-hour lecture and one x 2-hour laboratory per week) plus about 8 hours of private study per week.

Hi-tech lecture theatre with hi-resolution projector connected to a computer and facilities to connect the lecturer's lap-top computer for 2 hours per week.

Laboratories equipped with high specification IBM PCs, Windows NT or Windows 2000, and Extend 6 for one hour per week. Students should also be able to access additional resource material on the unit web site.
